Motorised solution is of course pricier than that of the traditional manual solution. Yet it offers value for money, comfort and aesthetic. In fact, a motor is a very precise device, simply speaking the lower the operating sound, the higher the quality. Do take this into consideration when choosing for your home.
You’re not sure to go for hardwired or battery powered options? With wired option, be sure to have power source near your window. So, unless you already have a suitable socket, a new one will need to be fitted by a qualified electrician. If you want to upgrade to motorised curtains but do not plan to renovate, then go for battery-powered motor, which is required to recharge only once a year.

If your window is positioned in the center of the wall, be sure to go for a curtain track that is wider than your window. Leave at least 10 cm wider on each side of the window frame, this allows curtains to be positioned completely to the side of the window and makes the space feel larger.
You can also visually lengthen your room by mounting your track close to the ceiling or placing it at least 10-15cm above the window frame. It makes your ceiling appear much higher, hence a more spacious room.
Each layer of curtains requires independent motors and tracks. A single track requires 12 cm width of space. If you want to install double layer of curtains (sheer + blackout), then you would need 2 motors +2 tracks, be sure to reserve at least 24 cm of width.
